Seeing a need in her local and surrounding rural community, Steph McCarthy left her career in education and pursued the dream of owning her own business. Loving bright colours, a bit of flare and sparkle, along with tongue-in-cheek T-shirt slogans, the western fashion market came calling her name. Wanting some fun country fashion that was only available online, she set out to introduce a new and exciting option to her local area – filling the gap between typical saddlery or workwear businesses and the major chain stores.

Starting as a pop-up shop and trading at events such as shows and rodeos, she soon added Dixie Lane to the online space with huge success and later opened a permanent store in Inverell.

Steph has since developed Dixie Lane into its own brand, producing a variety of stock for the label in-house. She still travels to approximately 20 events around the district and beyond each year, and employs local fashion enthusiasts to work the store when she is trading on the road. Dixie Lane stocks a unique blend of western fashion imported from the US.

We’ve also taken a liking to the “Vegas” style rodeo fashion that screams sparkle, shine, and everything over-the-top. If country and cowgirl isn’t your thing, don’t stress – in addition to the glitz and glam, Dixie Lane also stocks classic country style and on-trend boutique looks for locals who prefer something more low-key.

Formal wear also has a place in the store, along with a small selection of baby and kids’ wear, a men’s range, and of course giftware and home décor.

Operating a business in a smaller country town is all about diversity, and we strive to cater to the wider community as much as possible while staying true to our origins.
